PREVIEW: Mei Lim

10th January 2008

Artist Mei Lim opens her six week long exhibition in Torquay next week with part of the proceeds going to charity.

Mei’s sets of panoramic and triptych photographic studies of trees, seascapes and of the beach at Bigbury on Sea will be complemented by new work produced in other media at the exhibition at The Gallery in Torbay Hospital.

She works out of a studio at Mamhead in South Devon, and is also skilled in illustration and design.

Mei grew up in Malaysia, where at a very young age she was given a camera. She later moved to the UK and gained a degree in graphic design.

Over the last five years, her work has been on show in mixed and solo exhibitions, including being selected to show at the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts as well as the Royal West of England Academy.

Her new solo exhibition Sharing a View will be on view daily at The Gallery from next Friday until February 29.

Mei said: “Most people don’t visit hospitals for fun and usually for less than pleasant reasons.

“I was keen to exhibit my work in the corridors of this hospital because I believe that the humour in some of the pieces will bring a smile to people’s faces and the more contemplative works will all be uplifting in a different way.

“Most of all, I want to share my view of our beautiful environment with those too busy to usually notice.”

All are welcome, entry is free and part of the proceeds from sales will go to South Devon Healthcare Arts — the charity which supports art in the hospital.
