James Morrison set for Escot Park summer show (news)
08th March 2010James Morrison is set to play a massive show at Escot Park near Ottery St Mary this summer.
The award-winning star, who started his musical career busking in the South West, will be at the venue on July 16 — the day before boyband JLS.
Both concerts are being hosted by radio station Heart FM.
It's all a long way from Morrison's days as a busker in Cornwall, where he used to wash cars for a living as he struggled to break into the music scene.
His efforts eventually paid off and he was signed to Polydor and made his first album.
Debut record, Undiscovered, went straight to number one in the UK album chart in July 2006, selling more than two million copies worldwide. You Give Me Something became the romantic anthem of the summer and he was that year’s biggest selling British male solo artist.
His second album, Songs For You, Truths For Me, is still in the charts more than a year after its release and includes the hit singles You Make It Real, Please Don’t Stop The Rain, and Broken Strings.
Morrison, who went to school at Newquay Treviglas Community College near Indian Queens, last visited the West Country for a show at Exeter Uni’s Great Hall in March 2009.
Musically, Escot is best-known for staging the family-friendly Beautiful Days festival in August.
Tickets for James Morrison's Escot Park concert cost £28.50 in advance on 0845 2960000. People under the age of 14 must be accompanied by adult. Those under the age of five are not allowed access into the arena.
