Lizzy Parks coming to the Exeter Phoenix (news)
21st January 2010Exeter-born jazz singer-songwriter Lizzy Parks is set to visit the Phoenix as part of the city's Vibraphonic Festival.
At just 29, the soulful star already has three critically-acclaimed albums under her belt.
Raise The Roof, her debut album for the Tru Thoughts label, was a euphoric introduction.
With rich, dramatic orchestration from fellow Exonian Riaan Vosloo, the record encompassed elements of various styles, from retro jazz and boogie soul to ambient modern experimental music.
She went on to collaborate with label mate Nostalgia 77 - the studio project of British artist Ben Lamdin (aka The Hermit).
The result, The Hope Suite, was nominated for Gilles Peterson's BBC Radio 1 Worldwide Awards Jazz Track of the Year.
The special performance for Vibraphonic will see Lizzy - currently based in France - perform a stunning collection of beautifully crafted, stripped back and re-imagined acoustic guitar and vocal versions of songs from her most recent 2009 album This and That.
Expect them to be imbued with the characteristic playfulness, sense of romance, warmth yet lightness of touch that sets her apart as one of the UK`s most up and coming jazz singers.
Delicate fragility blends with assertive attitude, making Lizzy Parks a name to remember.
See for yourself at the Phoenix on March 7. Tickets cost £8/£6 on 01392 667 080.
