Murray Lachlan Young presents Modern Cautionary Tales For Children in Exeter (preview)
08th January 2010Murray Lachlan Young is set to present Modern Cautionary Tales For Children at the Exeter Phoenix this month.
From the moment Young bounds onto the stage, hair wrapped in a towel, dressing gown flapping, you know you’re in for a good time.
Modern Cautionary Tales... defies description. A literary event, a stand-up show, a cosy chat – it is all these things, and more.
His choice of music, largely carved from the world of film, is inspired. His poetry is funny, observational and entirely silly. His audience banter is even funnier.
Best of all, he knows exactly what your average five- to 10-year-old is interested in – toilets, poo and death!
Above all, audience participation for both children and ex-children (as he calls us) is neither awkward nor embarrassing in this show - just fun.
Young gets children dancing on-stage, being ponies, and getting seriously involved in live interactive poetry – in a raucous, silly, scary, funny, poignant and enlightening hour of merriment and mayhem.
The Scotsman said: "The big bad boy of performance poetry turns out to be one of the greatest children’s entertainers I have ever seen."
Find out for yourself at the Phoenix at 11am on January 30. Tickets cost £6/£4 on 01392 667 080.
