Poldark festive fun day will raise cash for Precious Lives Appeal (news)

Poldark Mine near Helston in Cornwall has already been called 'one of the two most atmospheric mine tours in Europe' and this month local volunteers are going to make it even more atmospheric.

The mine will be decorated in a festive fashion and traditional carols will be sung in the Holman Chamber, echoing through the passageways all in aid of the Precious Lives Appeal.

There'll be a free mine tour available and a quick introduction to what Christmas was like for miners 100 years ago.

Many of the normal site attractions will also be open on the day including the shops, ceramic painting and candle dipping and restaurant.

Other attractions on the day will include steam engines, a craft stall, a video presentation for the children and live music through the day.

The event is to raise money for the Precious Lives Appeal to build ‘Little Harbour’, a children’s hospice just outside of St Austell in Cornwall.

A special CD of the choir singing traditional carols has been recorded for sale on the day as well as pewter miners which will be available as a momento of the occasion, profits from these will be given to the appeal.

Mary Murfin, Children’s Hospice South West Community Fundraiser for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, told WOSW: “It is wonderful that Poldark are opening their mine in aid of our cause this Christmas.

“What better way to spend a day of festive fun for the whole family, while also helping local families with life-limited children make the most of the precious time they have together?”

So bring your family to Poldark Mine on December 12 from 11am to 6:30pm and help raise some money for Precious Lives and have a great day out.
