James May and Oz Clarke enjoy Plymouth Gin adventure (news)
21st August 2008Top Gear presenter James May visited Plymouth this week with his wine buff colleague Oz Clarke.
The duo enjoyed a tipple in the cocktail lounge of Plymouth Gin on August 21 – while filming their new TV series Oz and James’ Big Beer Adventure, which features beer, gin and tea as well as their usual tipple, wine.
The pair are touring round the country in a Rolls-Royce and a small caravan in search of the perfect pint, following the success of their last series about wine, which took them all over France and California.
Plymouth Gin boss Richard Smith said he was pleased to accommodate the duo, who have been described as “one of the liveliest pairings on television”.
He said: “It’s been great having them here – very exciting. They’re well-recognised and widely respected, so it’s good news for us.
“I don’t know what they’ll say about our gin, but I don’t think they’ll find anything to say that isn’t complimentary.
“It’s been kept very quiet, so no crowds turned up here today, and, although it’s been kept very low-key, they can’t be hard to spot with their Rolls-Royce and small caravan.”
Oz and James’ Big Beer Adventure is due to be shown on the BBC in October.
