Truro Music Festival (preview)
11th June 2008A week-long music festival featuring all manner of venues and every genre of sounds you can think of will be held in Truro later this year.
Truro Music Festival will run from Saturday, September 20, to Saturday, September 27, and aims to become an annual event to rival music festivals in other British cities.
Organised by Totally Truro, the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation, the event will feature music throughout the city, both indoors and outdoors, with something for everyone.
Neil Scott, BID manager, said: “This will be the first of what is hoped to be an annual event to celebrate the wide array of musical talent in the city.
“It will provide a showcase for Truro's music industries, from performers and venues to education bodies.”
The venues which are being considered range from pubs, parks and schools to larger spaces like Truro Cathedral, the Hall for Cornwall and Lemon Quay.
“We want there to be a lot of surprises – both music-wise and the venues where the events are held.”
The final programme has yet to be finalised but the festival will kick off with music events around Truro Carnival on September 20 and culminate with a big event on September 27.
Some of the events being earmarked include an evening of sacred music, music films at the Plaza Cinema, student club night, busking competition, jazz, opera, gamelan performances, samba and drumming workshops, rock concerts, schools orchestral masterclasses, a folk night and an industry day providing advice for musicians and those involved with music.
Neil added: “This festival will be for everyone in Truro from schoolchildren to older people and will provide something for everyone.”
